Warning: Some men might want to skip over this post and go straight to the Buck video in the previous post.
Little Miss Sew ‘N Sew gets all the credit for this great meme. She started the ball rolling when she posted a beautiful video of the song Hummingbird by Seals and Crofts. The song makes her cry, but in a good way. It so nice to hear that song. I’d nearly forgotten about it!
For me it’s House At Pooh Corner by Loggins & Messina. I think of it as my “crying song” because the second I hear “…But today I have wandered much further than I should, and I can’t seem to find my way back to the wood…” I start to tear up.
Here’s House At Pooh Corner with some illustrations by “Mr. Shepard” (for A.A.Milne fans), aka E. H. Shepard for those unfamiliar with the artist.
Meme Rules and tags after the jump.
Rules for “Insight To My Heart”:
Post the song that just gets to you every time you hear it.
Link back to Little Miss.
I’m tagging five people, but if you’re not on the list and want to play along please do!

PS – I have no idea who the people at the end of the video are but I would guess it’s Ramanujan88, who did such a lovely job making this video.
I love that song! I can’t wait to see (uh, hear) what other people come up with. Good idea, Wendy!
It was you who got the ball rolling, my dear. This one’s my sort-of-happy crying song. My seriously-exhaustive crying song is Gary Jules’ cover of Mad World from the movie Donnie Darko. By the time I get done with that song I’ve cried out every ounce of stress in my body. ‘Course the other side effect to Mad World is that you then feel like jumping off a cliff, which is why I didn’t think it was a good idea to post it. Or listen to it.
“Mad World” is definitely my crying song. I listen to it wayyyy too often. Never fear though, I cry a lot, so I’m sure I can come up with more!
Thank you for the tag!
(I’d never heard the Pooh song. So sweet!)
I have to stay away from Mad World unless I’m writing something that needs to be sad. Otherwise I can’t go near it. Too dangerous.
Oh, this IS a great meme! Thanks for tagging me on this one, Wendy. I still have some posts and memes to catch up on so I will probably get to it next week if that is okay.
Take your time, no pressure.
How sweet a song!
Tomorrow, i’m all over this. Although it will be difficult to pick one song…
It is a sweet song, I love it. Buck says it makes him want to puke. LOL
haha, Thats okay you didnt pick me- most people don’t know I’m a music nut, but I am. When I hear a song I really like, I dissect it. Like chord for chord, beat for beat, lyric for lyric over and over, trying to find all it’s little secrets. If you think you’ve heard a song enough to know everything in it, try listening with headphones. Musicians need to layer and layer and layer lots of little things to fill all the empty space, so even the simplest song is amazingly complex beneath the surface, and you jsut won’t catch all of it on your car stereo.
And yes, Mad World is definately a dangerous song. I was certainly a mess when I began listening to it regularly, (we find the song because we’re of that state of mind) but despite identifying with it so much that I couldn’t turn it off, it really just deepend everything, and (not trying to be dramatic here) I really am lucky to be alive after immersing myself in that song and that state of mind for so long. Its almost as dangerous as Rezso Seress’ Gloomy Sunday! (wikipedia this if you don’t know what it is- pretty interesting. also a very (read: LEGENDARY)sad song…
Sorry that I ruined your night! Though I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t set out to completely level someone’s good mood, so I’m smiling on the inside. Does that sound evil? I don’t mean it to sound evil…
I should have definitely tagged you, you did some amazing music over there. I could write a thesis on the dangers of Mad World and it’s addictive properties. I was so bad during my Mad World phase, I made an 80 minute Cd of nothing but that song. That’s just sick, but at least I knew it at the time. I’m sick enough to find Gloomy Sunday now. Maybe I can add that to my suicidal compliation disk for certain writing days. It’s certainly motiviational when writing certain scenes.
OOh, Mad World is a great song. This is a great idea for a meme, hope I remember to do it one day …

Very nice tune.
I love seeing what moves people musically.
Thought you might like this version as well.
It was done by Loggins long after he left Messina.
Nice guitar work and a slight re-working of the tune.
The “new” bridge of the song is exceptional.
